Domaine Laroche et Château Capet-Guillier

Domaine Laroche et Château Capet-Guillier

The history of Domaine Laroche is closely intertwined with Chablis. The estate possesses 90 hectares of vineyards located among the most exquisite crus.

Deep roots are also reflected in its architectural heritage — the Obédiencerie de Chablis, a former monastery renowned for its wine since the Middle Ages by virtue of the canons of Saint-Martin de Tours. The relics of Saint Martin were also kept there for a decade.

This exceptional heritage is alive and well today: Domaine Laroche still vinifies and ages its Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in its historic cellars. Its wines are a tribute to over a thousand years of history.

Located at the gateway to Saint-Émilion, in the village of Saint-Hippolyte, Château Capet-Guillier traces its origins back to the Middle Ages, when it served as the hunting lodge of the Lord of Capet. It was in the 20th century, following the union of the Capet and Guillier families, that the estate acquired the name we know today.

The vineyard, covering around fifteen hectares, lies on the southern slope of Saint-Émilion, enjoying ideal sun exposure and an exceptional terroir: Fronsadais molasse rich in active limestone on the hillsides, and sandy-clay soils on the foothills. It is home to the emblematic grape varieties of the Libournais — Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

Crafted from a rigorous intra-plot selection, the Château Capet-Guillier cuvée embodies the elegance and character typical of the Saint-Émilion Grands Crus. With its deep violet color, it reveals aromas of fresh dark fruits enhanced by hints of forest floor, and a structured, rich and persistent palate. A wine with strong personality and excellent ageing potential.
